Personal background
Hi, I am Mateo, and currently studying a PhD in Food Chemistry in Univeristy of Wisconsin Madison. I am 8 years old and father of two beatiful daughters Sofia and Francisca Paz. I am Biochemist from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, but I have never worked as a classical biochemist.
I met SETI@home several years ago and was impressed by the idea of using free computer time (or full time in background use) of computers, since they were built to make calculations and we mainly use it to play games, write reports, some spreadsheet calculations, but we have never really used 100% of computer power for our common task, so I feel that all that energy of lazy time cannot be wasted and I strongly advise that you join us in the search for a extraterrestrial intelligence. :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I strongly believe that we are not alone in this vast Universe, therefore I hope we can one day (hopefully soon) discover other living creatures in the Universe.
The main concern is how do we relate to them, Are we going to be capable of achieving a society to accept the unknown without the need to destroy it?.
And also, how can we communicate with them. I believe that mathematics and logic are an universal expresion of intelligence and overcomes language limitations and therefore we should be able to send this message in a binary language so that should be easily translated to terms that any intelligence can understand.
