Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I would like to see it extended into more band widths as well as light spectrums as it could be possible for ETs to signal with light such as lasers.
As to when and how will we meet ETs, if its left up to humanity to make the first contact it could range between 1 to 2 hundred years or tonight !
With our techknowledgy growing at a astounding rate unseen in our history at least, the way in which we dicover Ets could range between this program now, and in the future who knows, perhaps something as far fetched as genetically engineered humans with special cognitive powers. But realistically in the near future, radio and light spectrum searches as well as the transmission of both these could produce results.
The danger of contacting ETs is minimal, if they are advanced as ourselves or a little ahead of us then they have no way of getting here . If they're advanced enough to get here then they have no need to harm sentiet beings or even what is considered primitive by their standards, as they would have vast knowledg in genetics and power sorces that would be virtually unlimited for them.
As for for the benefits, I think you could reverse my previous statement and herein befalls the answer..Unlimited safe power sources, genetic improvement, and perhaps how not to blow up our own earth or pollute it into extiction.
My views on the SETI program is ( what the heck it's all we have ), which is a great big thanks to all involved and who are participating is this endevor.
Although much more needs to be done .
