| I am a 32 year old male living just south of Louisville, KY. I am a data entry supervisor for a major insurance company. My hobbies include computers, electronics, reading and general science. I am running Seti on several machines, most of which are several years old, except a fairly new 1.0 Ghz machine, an upgraded PII 350 and an AMD. Now that I have a cable modem I'm sitting pretty. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
| I think that there is intelligent life SOMEWHERE else in the universe, although it may not be within communication range with us. That or God is wasting a tremendous amount of space (beautiful space though). Running Seti@home is the only real contribution I can make to discover any other life, plus it gives me a great excuse to upgrade my machines and have a cable modem. As to the question some have as to whether we should transmit a beacon for others to find, it depends on whether you think alien cilivizations would be hostile or peaceful. No vegas odd makers would take that bet I imagine. If nothing else Seti@home is a geat demonstration of how much PC computing power can be put to use for a popular cause. Maybe we will find something, maybe we won't but at least it is worth a shot anyhow... |
