Personal background
I'm 48 years old and an Arkansas native now living in Dallas, Texas. I pursued my Bachelor's Degree in Geology and Masters Degree in Geochemistry at the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville). Due to the cyclic nature of the petroleum industry, I'm now working for a major Insurance company. I am single, have recently bought my first home which I enjoy remodeling, drive a Volkswagen Golf (my 6th Volkswagen so far!), grow orchids as a hobby, and have a Tonkinese cat who is my favorite companion at this time! As I've grown older, I've developed an interest in Physics and Cosmology which I enjoy reading about.

I also enjoy building computers. My current system is a Pentium 4 1.8MHz with 512MB of RAM built on an Intel 845 motherboard (chosen on the basis of stability).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
First, I enjoy being a part of the SETI@home project. It's great being a member of such a vast distributed computing project.

Do I believe that extraterrestrial life exists in the Universe? Absolutely! When I consider the vast number of stars estimated to be in the Milky Way alone, and then the equally vast number of galaxies in the Universe, it's impossible for me to believe that the Earth is the only planet to have developed life. Do I think that there is intelligent life out there? Again, I have to say "absolutely." Again, what a Terra-centric idea that we should be the only planet with intelligent life capable of developing advanced technologies.

There is a very interesting book titled "The Sparrow" written Mary Doria Russell. In this book, intelligent life is discovered around a nearby star. It turns out that the civilization, due to the lack of an ionisphere around their planet, bounced radio signals off their moon back to their world. Some of these were intercepted on Earth. This may well be the way that we discover intelligent life out there, not due to their deliberate effort to contact us, but due to overhearing the communications between themselves.
