Personal background
I'm a 24 year old currently at Auckland University of Technology doing a Communication Studies Degree. (www.aut.ac.nz)I hope to major in either Creative Advertising or Public Relations (with the intention of doing Human Resources). I begin my second year in 2002. I had worked in Legal Research for 5 years straight from school as I didn't know what to study at University at the time. I thought I would live in the big world for a while and give some real thought about what to study. I moved from Wellington in February of 2001 and am loving living in Auckland now ... that's in New Zealand just in case people don't know where Auckland and Wellington are located and that is not a state in Australia although we might as well be. Even though I am not interested in studying law I also happen to work for a law firm, Russell McVeagh, (www.russellmcveagh.com) in the administration side of things which I also enjoy as it is sort of in line with public relations. I may even work in the Human Resources side of RMcV one day - that would be awesome.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The reason why I became a SETI user? I thought it was incredibly arrogant of Human Beings to say that we are the only ones in the universe. If that is the case then we are freaks of nature ... there has to be something else out there maybe not like us but similar in ways I'm sure. I want to be part of the organisation that finds some other type of "intelligent" life in the universe! We cannot rely on the religious "creation" theory as it was a time when science was not considered. If the planet is only 6000 years old then where on earth do the dinosaurs fit into the history of the bible? They are not mentioned in the bible but then we have definitive proof of their existance - then surely this proves the inaccuracy of the good book? I'm not here to debate religion over science but science just makes more sense to me. Only time will tell in the end.

Dangers of discovering other life? Living is dangerous enough without any other complications! but for our race to evolve we are required to change, if we don't change then something else will supercede us as top of the evolutionary scale ... maybe a new species is what the human race needs to help remove all the disease etc ... maybe the idea of Human/Alien hybrids is to the advantage and not the disadvantage? We need to discover this other life before we really know what is in our interests.

Contact the movie ... brilliant! A great interpretation of first discovery, lets hope it goes in a similar fashion.
