Profile: Linda D

Personal background
I tired of the snow in Erie, PA and eventually ended up living in Southern California where the only snow I see is in the mountains! I work in the insurance industry in San Diego (my office pc also has seti@home running and I'm not the only one, the head of our IS dept also has it running). I'm frequently teased about my screen saver, but that's ok. I've been running the seti program for almost 2 years now. I don't even remember where I heard about it.

If I'm not on my computer, I spend my time with my dogs. I raise, train and show English Springer Spaniels. Hey! It's better than golf as a hobby. Don't see golf cubs keeping your feet warm at night! My dogs can be seen at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/8195/lindel.html
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1.
Of course it exists.
Where and when? Have no clue, but would like to see it in my lifetime.
Benefits--just the experience of meeting another species would be its own reward! Dangers--only from our species.
2.
It would be great to send a beacon. I guess sending something like what was on Voyager would be appropriate, but with a warning of "enter at your own risk" as I don't know how the general population would deal with it.
3.
I'm a "boomer" and grew up with the whole space race. I have always been very pro-space exploration. I like the idea that I can help in some small way!
