Personal background
Okay, I live in Southampton, England, and as I write this I'm 22 years old. ;-) Occupation comes under the category of "loafing" right now, as I'm still unemployed - despite graduating with a BSC degree last year. :-p Hobbies? I don't know. Why do you even care? Take a look at my personal webpage if you're really so interested. It seems pointless reproducing the same lame list of "interest" every time I create a profile somewhere, so just check out my website.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think there are two realistic possibilities concerning extra-terrestrial life: either (a) none exists, or (b) it is so far away that we will never make meaningful contact (EM signals can only be sent at the speed of light). It makes no real difference which of the two happens to be correct. Any other possibility is pure speculation, and advocates of the point of view tend to be Star Trek fans (blech!). Since I've studied physics including astronomy at university, I watch Star Trek only to point out the gaping holes in the plot. Well actually the storylines are pretty good sometimes, but picking holes is kinda fun anyway. :-p

Why did I join this project? Well notmatter what I think about the credibility of the "reseach", I have no problem with helping out a fellow physicist. My processor was typically only about a 40% usage rate, so I thought why not donate the other 60% of my 800MHz to something useful. My brother has been part of it for some time, so I finally got around to downloading it myself and helping someone else. I have also linked to SETI@home from my website.

And you never know - maybe something will come out of this after all. Discovering life on other planets can't look bad on my CV, right? LMAO
