Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In a universe so vast, there must surely be other life, but I am unsure if it will be as evolved as we are (yet), or if we have even the technological capabilities to detect it, regardless of whether it is more or less evolved.

I believe there is little harm in reaching out to communicate with whatever species may be capable of detecting us, so a beacon would seem to be an innoccuous enough method. As to the information, it should be fairly diverse, since we have no idea how the information may be received (technologically or ideologically).

I run SETI@Home as an exercise in contributing my unused CPU cycles to a what I perceive to be a worthwhile effort. If other projects embraced the distributed computing technology model, I would likely be compelled to share my CPU time, depending upon the goal of each individual project. I would like to see the medical research community (other than the Genome Project) pursue this model for their computing needs.

As the SETI@Home project is in danger of running out of funds, my only suggestion for the project would probably be to suggest that SETI supporters approach local organizations (like the Adler Planetarium in Chicago) to host or donate an evenings\\' attendence proceeds to SETI. As an experienced event organizer, I\\'d be happy to assist in such matters on a voluntary basis, if such work would be of use.
