Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes I believe extraterrestrial life exists in many different forms. In this so huge universe there must be millions, billions, etc. lifeforms.
The point is how many of this lifeforms are wise to understand their existence and the ability to communicate with other lifeforms.

The possibilities for human to find an other lifeform in this time period are very few. Without spaceships who can travel outside our solar system and explore the stars we cannot have such a discovery.

Radio telescopes, or any other machine that scans the sky is something very small, but it's just a try. The best for now, and better in future.
Benefits and dangers? Well you can think the other lifeforms in our planet.
Animals. Some of them are friendly some not, some of them are useful and some not. The only big and important differerence is that a lifeform from an other world may be wise like human even wiser. So human must understand and respect them. Also, human was always conqueror. out of this planet... we must be very careful of our actions.

2. A beacon out in the universe? For who, in what language, in what format?
Hmm.. I don't think so.. If there is advanced intelligent life in our neighbourhood they will already know our existence cause we are brodcasting radio, tv, etc. signals since long time ago. I suppose that there can be 2 cases. On first they are somehow advanced like us and they sent back a signal which will reach us in the next years. Second.. they are too advanced and they watch us but they will not communicate untill we are ready for this.. possibly in 50-100yrs

3. I do in hope that one day humanity will contact.. and hopefully the reply will be peaceful. Their knowledge, will help us to reach the stars, other worlds. And problems like pollution, economy, overpopulation.. will be forgotten..
