Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists? Of course....I wouldn't be here if I didn't. I orriginaly started college majoring in Computer Scince and minoring in Pysics. Later I dropped out to persue my other pation of law enforcment, and joined the Army because I just couldn't see myself wearing a lab coat for the rest of my life. If I've did learn anything in college was that there is indeed an awful lot of space around us. I know that there must truley be other intelegent life in our universre, and if nothing else, listening for that faint call in space is one of our best bets to actualy finding that life. Besides, wheather or not we later deploy a homming becon ( which I do think is a good Idea-----never know, that might be listening for us ) it would be nice if you knew where to direct the signal. I think the WHEN humans do finaily make contact with others from another world, or vice versa, we will lear a lot from eachother. Perhaps not even as much technologically as we will culturally. That is the reason why I've donated my laptops computer time. If it helps, then it brigs everyone close to achieving a greater goal. I think that this project is a good ideo and will eventually prove itself to the world by achieving its goal of contact. As for what we should send on a message. Hmmmm, thats a rough one isn't it! Being a soldier, I'm aforded the ability not to have to make policy or Earth impacting disicions, but to simply enforce them. However in light of the world being a better place and the enormace universe suddly becoming a smaller neighberhood with a few new friends, I think a transmitted message should be short and simple. Seeing as how a species with the technology to pick it up will probably have the technology to trace it back to its source I would say--------------Hello, You're no alone now either!
