Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
How many times have you looked up into the night sky and asked yourself, Are we alone in the universe? If there is one thing in common with just about everyone on the earth from the very beginning of mans existence it is that very intriguing question. SETI the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, is the scientific quest to answer this great question.

As Seti points their radio telescopes into the vastness of space they must compile the data they acquire to determine if there is life elsewhere and this is no easy task. It requires more computing efforts than any one system can handle. It requires a shared effort and this effort has been solved by having a shared processing solution called Seti@Home using computers across the web by people donating thier own idle CPU time from their computers connected to the internet.

I believe this is the perfect way to put my home computer to use when it is not in use. SETI is an extremely controversial scientific project. Some scientists believe that it is a complete waste of time and money, while others believe that detection of a signal from ET would forever change our view of the universe.

Think about it, if Seti@Home finds anything related to intelligent life somewhere out there and it happened to be from some of the data processed by your home computer then you would have assisted in answering one of lifes most compelling questions! What better way can you think of to use your computer when you are not at the keyboard?

The truth is out there and you can be a part of finding it! If you do not have a computer to share with this project you could make a donation to help keep this project alive. Click here now to make your donation to this fantastic project.
