Personal background
I am the CIO of a Dallas-based computer services company. I thought this might be a fun way to use some wasted CPU cycles.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think extraterrestrial life exists. It's really just a numbers game. The universe contains so many wonders, yet none of them are really singular, so there must be life elsewhere. We will probably stumble upon the first extraterrestrial life in traveling through space, although I suspect that we will first find something small and seemingly insignificant, like a colony of bacteria on an asteroid floating through the galaxy. When we do find intelligent life elsewhere, I suspect that we will be seen as the backward cousin of all other life that nobody talks about because it's impolite. Depressing as that is, I'd be willing to put money on it.

We really are transmitting beacons all the time. We are an extremely noisy planet when it comes to radio waves, so somebody is bound to be listening to it.

I run the program because it is fun to see how many units I have completed, and who knows, I might find ET.
