Profile: Mike Have-Not

Personal background
Gazizza!
I am from Vallejo, CA in the SF Bay Area. I am the singer/bass player for the punk
rock band called the V-Town Have-Nots. You might remember us from such things as the
soundtrack for the PC/Playstation game "Motoracer 2". You can check us out at www.geocities.com/vtown_havenots/
I am also a HUGE trekkie. Deep Space Nine is my favorite, but I like Trek in all it's
myriad forms. My band even has a couple of songs about Star Trek!
I am a pretty big Science Fiction fan in general. Kim Stanley Robinson is my favorite author. I have read most of his
novels, including the Mars Trilogy.
I am into comedy(the Simpsons, Eddie Murphy, News Radio, Red Dwarf, etc.), all kinds of music (punk, jazz, metal, classical, reggae, ska, soul, some country, etc.), and
lots of other stuff. I like documentary films, as well.
That's me in a nutshell.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

I run SETI@home because I think that the discovery of other intelligent life in the universe is one of the most important goals the human race could acheive.
I think that our society spends far too few resources on this highly significant process.
I personally don't know how likely we are to come upon any evidence of life outside of our solar system in the near future. I think that it is probable that there are many intelligent civilizations inhabiting various planets throughout even our galaxy, but I think it highly unlikely that such civilizations exist anywhere near our system.
I beleive the pursuit of extra-terrestrial cultures is one that will span centuries, or more. But I think that we must begin now. We have the capabilities and resources. But, unfortunately far too many of our precious resources are used for
militaristic, or profit-driven purposes.
