Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1: Of course i think there's life somewhere in space.. Why would'nt there... It would seem odd to me, if the earth were the only place in the the universe suitable for living... How and when humans will descover the lifeform, I dont have a clue about.. Maybe throug this program, maybe space traveling, or maybe in the telescopes.. Dangers and benefits of finding life is hard to say... It depends on what aim the specie got.. If they feel like taking over the universe it would be quite bad...
2: Tough one.. It could have consequences, to send out a beacon.. I would prefer i we found life, instead of being found... If the Sci-fi stories would come true, it would be a great tactical advance, to know where the is...
3: Why I run SETI... Well, my computer is online 24/7, but I only work on it 5-6 hours a day... So I can just as well donate some of my processor-power to something useful.. I think this project is a great idea.. Just look at the statistics.. All the data examined on homePCs over the world, would take a million times longer if it were only done by scietists and their PCs..
