Personal background
Hi, my name is Dave and at the age of 44 I have graduated with BA Tourism Operations and Marketing. Having spent nearly 20 years in an uninspiring job I decided to take the plunge and return to full-time education. So now that little adventure is over, it's time to move on to pastures new!!

In my spare time I enjoy watching various sports, surfing the net and watching sci-fi. My favourite programme genre is sci-fi, particularly The X Files, no doubt inspired by the thought of aliens and government cover-ups - Who knows who or what have already visited this planet of ours. Two other big faves at present are 24 and The West Wing.

At present I am employed as an operator for British Telecom, a position that I enjoy for the opportunity to talk to the great British public (bunch of tossers at times!) and the stimulating conversation and wit of my colleagues. The pay is shite, but you can't have everything! This job, however, is temporary until I can find myself a suitable job more related to the disciplines that my degree is for.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I firmly believe that we are not alone in this vast universe but due to it's sheer size it could be many years if not centuries before we have some contact with an alien civilisation. The discovery of this will hopefully be of benefit to all of mankind. Lets hope we can do it before we destroy this beautiful planet we call home.

As far as a beacon transmitting into space I think we need to 'advertise' the human race. It is part of our human nature to explore our surroundings both on Earth and 'out there', and if it helps us to contact extra terrestrials then so be it.

I discovered, like most people, the SETI program by surfing the net and realised that is both an important scientific project, but a way of uniting like minded people all over the world who want to find out who else is out there in space. This project deserves all the funding it can get and should be supported strongly by both government and private individuals alike. It would give me immense pleasure to be one of the first to find a signal on my PC and help to keep the SETI program going
