My name is Michael. I am an 44 year old computer system engineer from the Netherlands. I like to watch the skies, and wonder what is goin on there.
I have my own custom made Newtonian 8 inch telescope which I use for astrophotographing.

| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

1. I think its pretty arrogant to assume that we are alone in the galaxy. I know we are not the only sentient life forms around. Not because I ever met an alien but its just a "logical" conclusion. Possible benefits of an extraterrestrial life discovery is that we know that we are not alone. I think we will understand more our place in the Universe.
If we ever meet highly intelligent lifeforms they can perhaps help us to learn us to cure certain diseases and stop pollution, give us means to travel with lightspeed etc. Possible dangers could be an evil species that only enslaves or destroy other species. I know, sounds a lot like science fiction but I think it is not so stupid to think so.
2. Sure, we should make ourself heard! We should send a database with pictures of humans and animals. Together with music and art.
3. Its nice to know that I am participating in finding new life. And the hope that my data units may ever find something intresting, like it is my own discovery.....its cool to know isn't it? The work of SETI is very important for all of us on this planet. Think of what might happen if SETI finds an other planet with extraterrestrial life? Suggestions: keep on goin!! |
