Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
the benifits of meeting other forms of life are we may learn a greater understanding of the universe and how it became as well as that we are not alone and it may change the world for the better where as once we have learned openly that we are not alone as a planet all nations my come together in peace to build a space program to explor space, the disadvantages is that the aline race could be hostile, we might see them as a threat when there are aproching our planet and so dumb country might fire a nuke the aliens could also spead up the technological progress of the planet witch might lead to more wars and eventully our own destruction as well as theres, if we are to transmit a beacon it should be 1 of our history and culture not in biological terms like the whole antomy of the human system coz if they where to attack they would have 1 up on us in developing a biological weapon, all we should transmit is our history books and learnings and understandings of the universe. i mainly run seti at home to contribute to the effort of a remote chance that 1 day we might pick up a signle not from this planet of background radiation distortion from space. i think the project has come a long way in recent years with faster pc's being developed we can translate data faster allowing us a higher chance of picking up a signle all this project needs is a advertisment boost of for microsoft to include this software in there next windows after xp so every new pc in the world is involved.
