Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes I do believe that extraterrestrial life exists. I believe that life is not a rare occurence and will thrive wherever condition permit itself. I can't accept the belief that Earth is the only world in the entire universe that contains life. I am not sure when we will discover sentient life;however, I feel that we may discover single cell organisms thriving one either Jupiter's or Saturn's moons (i.e. in the seas of Titan), in the next 100 years. I feel that such a discovery would be as important as discovering sentient life, especially if it is found in our own solar system. As for discover sentient I feel it that benefits and the dangers are equal, at least during this stage of human civilization. First of all, I feel that the majority of humans today wouldn't be able to tolerate the fact that life is not unique to Earth because such a fact would be contrary to many religous doctrine. Furthermore, I believe that since we have many social problems on Earth at the moment that occurence of a contact with ET intelligence would complicate things further. I don't think Mankind is truly ready for such a discovery. On the otherhand, when we are ready and we do make contact this will permittly change the Human race forever. First and foremost an exchange of technology (especially if they are superior) would be the first benefit. Second, a exchange of art and history would aslo be beneficial. This would expand our understanding of ourselves, the Galaxy, and Universe. This would help us unravel the ultimate human question, why are we here, what is our purpose in the cosmos?

2.I wouldn't be opposed to sending a beacon for others to find; however, I feel it would be a fruitless act because I don't think our technology would be sufficent for the task. However, assuming if we were advanced enough to send a strong singal throughout the entire Galaxy, I feel the beacon should contain messages of salutations and coordinates of our planet that is expressed in a basic mathematic code. There is no harm in doing this because
