By activating SETI@home on my PC, and as with most users, it gives me a sense of a 'personal' contribution to mankinds instinct for needing to know what's on the other side of the hill.
I hope that a sign to prove that the human race is not the only highly intelligent life form that exists, will happen soonest. And on discovery, I hope that our earthly cultures and religions will behave rationally and be able to deal with the revelationary knowledge of the existance of other intelectual lifeforms.
Discovery should also encourage higher levels of investment in space exploration and development of technologies for travel and settlement on other planets. Let's get rock & rolling for goodness sakes. Travelling faster than the speed of light - we must, otherwise we'll get nowhere! |
