Personal background
I'm Chris Faulkner, from La Vergne, TN. I am nearing the age 31 as of this writing. My occupation is a Unix Administrator and Linux hobbyist. I've been with Seti@Home for quite a bit. I should be running the client more than I should have been, but now that I have a few machines here to crank it up now. In set@home, I belong to Team Nerdyboys. Anyone wishing to join our team is welcome to. Well, I don't have much to say but Keep the spirit of Seti alive people!!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I do believe in E.T. life, maybe not in the sense of humanoid, but life in general. You would have to be a fool not to understand this. Humans have maybe a long way to go before something happens. Perhaps the "life" we are trying to listen for hasn't quite evolved yet, or maybe they have and the signal is just taking its blasted time getting here. As with anything, there are benefits and dangers, I believe that if we do find life elsewhere, it will only endeavor to make the human investigative bug stronger, thus leading to more viable solutions for space travel. We should set up a beacon, unless we are already a beacon, after speaking with ham radio operators, if there is someone out there listening like we are, they are bound to find us really soon if they haven't already. The information should be specific and general all at the same time...just the very instance of some other being trapping our signal is proof of our existance to them. I run Seti@home because it's fun, and it stirs up my children's imagination... I love talking to them about finding life out in the stars. I love the Seti@home project, I think it is wonderful! Only suggestion I could possibly give if there was someway to turn on sound as if a toggle, to hear what it's decoding.. That would be neat.. Thanks Seti@home!
