Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
If intelligent life can exist in one place, to my mind, it has to exist somewhere else. I'd like to think that we'll discover it in my lifetime.
I don't think if we contact ET he'll visit invade etc. due to the distances involved, and the feasability issues in travelling those distances and the "conversation" by radio would have such a time lag it would also be a logistical nightmare. "I'm sorry but the number you requested died three generations ago and our current administration are xenophobic" could be our return message if we attempt contact.
The only danger I see is the culture shock real ETs would have on much of the world.
