Personal background
My involvement with SETI comes from many areas. I have a technical background having worked in the Development & Integration of aircraft systems. I am also a licensed Airframe and Powerplant Technician. Some stuff I've built has been in outer space. I live in Wichita, KS, USA…the Air Capital of the World( originally from Ft. Worth, Texas ). I am single, and have a lovely 13 year old daughter.
Participating in SETI is a way to look toward the future by looking at signals that were sent in the past. I also enjoy our historical past through my participation in Renaissance Faires. I make chainmail items like the Knights used to wear. The combination of these two activities, SETI and Renaissance Faires, join low-tech and hi-tech for me.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It would be absurd to think that we are the only life in the vastness beyond our planet. I think that listening for signs of life is the most prudent thing to do at this time. Before we start actively broadcasting, we had better be certain that we are prepared for who may answer.
Before we invite an alien race to dinner, we had best make certain that we won't be the entree....

I run SETI@home because I finally have a computer that can handle it...lolol. This little Athlon 1900 has been chewing up 3.77 work units/day and averaging 5hrs 45min/work unit. It's been on 24/7 except for during some thunderstorms. I enjoy watching the results pile in and looking forward to downloading some certificates.

I also like the concept of the shared computer time among so many diverse people and countries towards the same end.
