Personal background
I am a 23 Y.O. College Student in Hartford CT. I am prusuing a major in Computer Information Systems (comperable to a MIS degree. Intrested in programming, networking, network administration, hardware repair/assembly/etc. I like Hockey, computers, and Japenese Animation.

my other account is dar00t... but due to a problem with changing isps i couldnt get the pw for my old account... i had about 47 completed work units on that one... and i got 2 on this one... so far...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
To be quite honest with you, i think that the universe is just too large to have only one sentient race, and one planet capible of supporting life. If this project continues, we may discover a radio signal from an intelligent race. However, there is the possibility that another race may have a completely different communications medium. Nevertheless SETI's project is important, the Potential benefits of trying far outweigh the costs of the project. In the event that a "intelligent signal" is found, I don't really think we should be in such a hurry to make a first contact. Who knows what their response will be, and who knows they will be capible to respond at all? How will we penetrate an obious language barrier? I run SETI@home because I know that considering the time date when signals are taken down from the radio observatories, and the dates we process them, it is clear to me that without the users of seti@home the project does not have the computing power to process and analyze all of the raw data pulled down from the radio observatories. I think that the use of SETI@home's growing userbaseuserbase will help to fill for the lack of supercomputers somewhat. I will soon be running a heterogenous beowulf cluster with 8 nodes (one of course will be both console and communications and wont handle any work...) that will hopefully process quite a few work units ;-)
