Personal background |
I work for a firm that consults to colleges and universities, so I travel a lot. Have a great family (wife and 4 daughters) and was brought up to be open to just about anything under the sun. Enjoy playing golf and soccer, and have recently begun Chito-Ryu Karate. Have always been somewhat in shape, but the karate moves require flexibility I haven't had since I was 6. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I have a math and science background, so statistics and evolutionary theory leads me to believe that extraterrestrial life exists. With the combined efforts of SETI and SETI@home, I would hope to at least see some evidence in my lifetime. Based on distances and probabilities, it is a rather small chance for me, but maybe for my children and their children. Who knows?? I feel that all discovery provides benefits, whether they are realized up front is another topic.
I think we should transmit a beacon, at least we have been doing so without structure for the past 100 years or so with all our RF, it would be nice to formalize it. I think we should send out a basic invitation, our address, and an RSVP.
I run SETI@home so I can say that I helped participate in the search. Hope one day to say "I told you so" to some of the skeptics.
