Profile: Paul Cripwell

Personal background
I am a self-employed consultant working from a home office. My business is the provision of quality consulting and advisory services to clients who have problems that are new. My market focus is the Knowledge Management area which is slowly developing into a full discipline. There are many discussions going on as to what KM is, and how it should be applied.

I volunteer my time to the community as an Engineer-in-Residence for the professional Engineers of Ontario, at a local high school. This program gives me the opportunity to talk to today's youth about science, technology and math, and how it affects our daily life.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life is all about probability. The odds are just too significant that other life exists.

Establishing communications with another species would be a major development in human history. Everything would change, hopefully for the better, with a more global viewpoint, and less petty nationalist, religious and ethnic overtones.

If we were to transmit a beacon, the first message should be along the lines of "We are here, we are peaceful, talk to us."
