Personal background
I am a 51 year old guy who is currently retired. My greatest pet peeve are the pseudo intellectuals out there expounding on various aspects of the universe and the human condition and the fear of scientific progression. Most are inferior imitator's of great thinkers at best. Astronomy has been a life long hobby. I have been reading Science Fiction since my first "Tom Swift" novel at the age of 6 years. Some might think that I would be a firm believer in the existence of intelligent life beyond Earth. As much as I hope there is I am an empiricist. Like the state of Missouri it's a "Show me" attitude that I entertain. I enjoy fishing, reading, and taking CCD images of the many objects in the night sky. I grew up in Montana and built my first telescope from a kit from Edmond Scientific when I was 12. The night skies of Eastern Montana were a perfect place to pursue the hobby of Astronomy. It is my hope that the new robotic telescopes at a reasonable price will entice more young people into the hobby.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Internet progects like SETI at home can perhaps inspire more people to develope an imagination and a strong desire to pursue the hope of man in space. It is my ultimate belief that mankinds continued existence depends on the developement of space based industries and resources. SETI moves us to look upward and onward rather than down and on the ground. As important as the liviing of life and the demands of it's basic essentials are, I believe it is imperitive that we as a race continue to have the hope that the universe beyond offers.
As we continue to search for extraterrestrial life in the Macro sense has any one considered looking for intelligent life in the Micro sense? Examining the sub-atomic realm? Signs of intelligence from the Quark leval of physic's? One wonders what sort of measures and methods could be used.As we look for discrete radio waves on specific frequency's could we not examine some of the characteristics of sub-atomic movement, vibration, pulse, waveform etc. I am sure that some physicist reading this will get a good laugh. Yet the obvious is some times the most obscure and much can be said about where we look not just how whether it be in a micro or macro sense.
To me it is an honer to be even a small part of the SETI project. What an ingenius way to utilize valuable resources that would otherwise go to waste.
