Profile: Marcel-Jan Krijgsman

Personal background
I am Marcel-Jan Krijgsman, 34 years old. I live in Gouda, the Netherlands.
For my living I'm an Oracle database administrator at Atos Origin, a
French-Dutch IT company.

My interests are spaceflight, astronomy and computers, so I guess that's
pretty nerdy. So be it.

I also like cycling, mostly abroad, because Holland is a bit to flat
for my liking. Therefore I've been in South-West England, Tuscany,
Norway and Corsica by now.

Furthermore I like to cook every now and then. Cooking is the most fun
when you can get all the fresh ingredients you want and the best place
for me for that is the saturday market in Gouda.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My thoughts about SETI? I've just laid my eyes on a photo
of a galaxy cluster called Abell 2218, made by the Hubble
telescope.
A cluster of galaxies! Each with bilions of stars and with
who knows how many planets! So many chances for intelligent
life to develop elsewhere.

I don't know what the chances are that we find intelligent
life elsewhere with the SETI@Home project, but it is
certainly worth a try. That is why I joined from the
beginning. Being active in the wonderful world of IT, I
think that SETI@Home has developed tremendously. One second
you send your latest result, the next your status is already
updated. I've seen worse (and slower) Internet applications.

Congrats!
