Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There is no doubt that extraterestrial life exists. Yet some people want to see more evidence. Unless other civilisations contact us first, the most likely posibility for us to find them is SETI. The benefits of such a discovery are huge.
Yes, we should transmit a beacon for others to find. They whouldn't understand our language so it is useless to transmit any information. Instead we should transmit a plain signal, a pulse that repeats at certain intervals, on a frequency that should be determined by the scientists working at SETI.
I run SETI@HOME because i want to help as much as I can. The only suggestion i have is that the program should have a GUI and should display more information about the current and the procesed work units, perhaps a sky map.
