Personal background
Greetings,

I am from New Ulm, Minnesota, USA. I have computer programming and digital electronics degrees. Since October 1990 I have been working for 3M Telecom Division, where I am an automation engineer.

My free time is divided between my animals and my education. Currently I am learning C++ and Linux, ... 41 years is NOT too old to learn.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think e.t. life exists? Considering the size of the universe, I don?t see how other life could not exist. The only questions left are: Where is this life? Are they transmitting signals that we can receive? Have their signals reached us yet? It's impossible to prove that e.t. life doesn't exist - at worst, we can only say "We haven't found any yet." Contacting other life should provide an abundance of information, especially, where to look for more. The only danger I can imagine would be from other humans right here; people who, out of fear or ignorance, don't want to believe any hard evidence that might be found.

Should we transmit a beacon for others to find? Of course! That would help speed up the search. If anyone else out there is searching their sky for signals, they must want to find us the same as we want to find them.

Why do I run SETI@home? Simply for the science.
