Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think SETI@home is one of the best projects in which people all around the world can participate, crossing political borders and religious ideas (or narrowmindedness, I might be tempted to say). With our small, cheap computers we can contribute to maybe one of human history's most important discoveries.

I strongly believe that we are not alone in this universe, what a waste of space it would be otherwise. I do hope that we will have proof of extraterrestrial life still during my lifetime, might it be intelligent or not, maybe just in the form of some bacteria or algae even on one of our system's planets or moons (Europa, Mars, ...). This would bring a new vision and way of thinking amongst our political and religious leaders, and above all hopefully the realization not to overestimate ourselves.

Of course problems on this very earth must also be solved, because only in a wealthy, peaceful and tolerant culture is there enough energy to muse about unearthly matters.
