I am a 56 year-old engineer in Seattle. I've followed the space program since the Mercury project and always wanted to work for NASA. I never got that far, but in 1986 I did design the control system for an automated crane that refueled the solid-fuel shuttle boosters (after Challenger). I am quite sure we will find ET radio evidence within my lifetime and I am proud to participate in this effort. Keep looking up.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home for two reasons: 1) it is an excellent use of otherwise-wasted CPU time, 2) I think the search for ET must be pursued in as many ways as possible since the government provides very little support. We as citizens must do what we can and this program requires very little effort or expense on our part. When ET evidence is found it will be the most exciting event since man walked on the moon.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
