Personal background
I am a 24 year old, living in Oxford, Nova Scotia, Canada. I have been a Paramedic for 2 years, with an interest in Astronomy since I was a child. My wife and I own a house which the gardening and work never seem to end. I enjoy reading Medical texts, Science fiction, History, Fantasy and Poetry, as well as hobbies in woodworking and computers.
For my progress thus far in life, I have to thank my wife as well as all my family and friends, for this I will be forever grateful.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that extraterrestrial live exits, however I have no idea when we will discover it. Current technology dictates they may discover us first, or have already done so and may reveal themselves first. The benifits could be technological advancement and religious comparison and the dangers are probably obvious.
If we could transmit a beacon that would be discovered sometime in the reasonable future, I would agree. It could contain our goals as a race of people as well as accomplishments and aspirations.
I run Seti@home to contribute to the greater whole. Economist Adam Smith said that accomplishment comes from one doing what is best for themselves, but John Nash said that Accomplishment comes from one doing what is best for themselves, and the group. The latter is why I run Seti@home. In order to discover something with this technology, we must work as a group.
