Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why do you run SETI@home?
I run it to use free CPU time for the benefit of science, but
also to compare the speed of different computers and to "race"
with my friends. SETI@home is worthwhile because contacting
extraterrestial lifeforms would be the single most important
thing ever for mankind. Donating your (computer)time to science
is generally a worthy cause.

aThoughts about ETI
I think it is impossible that we would be alone in this big
universe. We will discover them someday, even if not in my
lifetime. Benefits would in my opinion be the unity of nations
"against" completely another species and naturally technology adapted
from the (friendly) ETs. The greatest danger, of course, complete obliteration
of mankind, which I don't consider a realistic scenario. I think we
should seek to establish contact by any means.a
