Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that extraterrestrial life does exist, but that they may not be any more civilized than we are, and that may be why we have had no concrete communication to date. As for when, I really don't know. It could be tomorrow, it could be after we have all passed away. Benefits would be extremely great if we were to be able to contact extraterrestrial civilizations, as they have technologies that we have only seen on star trek. Dangers could also be equally as high, as whatever race we contacted may be a race of conquerers, or murderers.

Transmitting should be avoided until we have confirmed that whatever race we find is not out to kill us straight off. The information we send should be similar to what we have already strapped to many satelites, the drawing of the man and the woman with several languages of text placed around them.

I run SETI@home because I can't stand waste. With about 10 computers running 24/7, it appalls me to no end that I'm wasting potentially useful CPU cycles. I think that a little more work should be done on the client, such as adding a work unit storage system.
