Not sure, but the odds would seem to indicate yes.

Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find?
Hmmmm.... probably not at this time. It would require a tremendous amount of energy and the odds of pointing it in the right direction are pretty low. And I'm not so sure mankind is ready to meet any neighbors.

Why do I run SETI@home? I don't figure we stand a snowball's chance in Hell of finding anything, but if we don't look, we certainly won't find.
