Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I do honestly believe there is life in our universe beyond our small, meager planet. The universe is too vast and has other areas, beyond our scope to detect currently, that will having building blocks for life. Discovering extraterrestrial life may be contingent upon man's ability to escape this solar system or galaxy within a time frame that allows he/she to return without centuries or millenia passing by. I think it may also be contingent upon man's capabilities (if possible) to grow beyond quarreling with itself. While our deeds and technologies may be quite remarkable given our timespan upon this planet, our ability to relate to one another and ethically move beyond violent responses when our egos are not satisfied sure has not progressed much beyond that of an animal. In fact, most animal species tend to be quite advanced, in this respect, when held up to man's image.
