Profile: Jean-Pierre Huls

Personal background
Well, I'm from the Netherlands, and I'm a down to earth person. At the age of 42 I'm currently employeed as a Lotus Domino & Datacommunications analyst for an international manufacturing company. Although not activily practising astronomy, it's one of my past-times. Besides enjoying married life with my wife, I currently spend my free time on running/jogging, photography, reading, creating 3D scenes and animations. As you might guess, the universe and planetary systems are a favorite subject.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Space is too big a place for us to be the only civilazation in it. So it's more than reasonable to assume that more lifeforms exist out there.

If I'm able to contribute to this noble quest, then who am I not to do so. The SETI project should be continued and funded.

But, we shouldn't be too foolish to expect only goodnatured lifeforms to exist. Hell, humankind has it's black sheep. But neither should we welcome them with a military committee.

NB: If we are to be visitted by aliens, I think they might have adopted the 'Prime Directive' from Star Trek.... (would that make them, or me, trekkies?).
