Personal background
I'm born in Iceland but i was raised in Denmark so i guess i'm more danish than Icelandic now. I'm 26 y.o. and a student at a technical edu center where i'm studying to become a dataengineer/technician (don't know the right english term for this particular education).

My hobbies became my life dream, to excel in IT and get a job working with servers and stuff. other hobbies of mine is that i like working with motorbikes, offroaders etc. however, due to being in an education i had to sell my offroader. bad luck but i'll get a new one after i graduate.

I'm currently trying to get in to the server group at my collegium where i will be updating/managing the website etc. I'm also webmaster of my own website where i write hardware guides etc. for people in Danish at www.skhg.com

Not really that much to tell.. except that i've seen a lot of the world. I was a "on-demand" steward for some bus travel agencies where i would function as a guide and sell soft drinks, alcohol and food on the long trips. so i have seen most of europe by land. it was a pretty fun job despite you have to sell stuff.. the fun part is traveling for free ;-)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think that extraterrestrial life excists somewhere in our galaxy .. but who knows if it is intelligent? who knows if they even are aware of radiowaves?
as for the potential danger, i wouldnt know anything about that. I do think that if an alien lifeform more advanced than us wouldnt worry too much or try to harm us because at our planets current state we would not be able to fight a intergalactic war. I mean, we can't even travel past the moon yet without growing old before we hit the next planet.
as for the benefits, as i was saying, if the alien lifeform were to be more advanced they would hardly bother to come here before they might see us as a threat. thats pure speculation at this point though.

sure why not send a beacon.. however, i think we should be a little careful about what information to share. maybe i'm just paranoid by watching too much species but things as our genetic code, war capabilities etc. should not be sent off. (e.g. showing them war capabilities might make them think that we mean to war upon them).
we could send stuff like what type of mathematic structures we have and show them pictures that might make them feel comfortable to visit, or perhaps some of our planets ground materials. Metal, water, earth etc. and perhaps some information about our atmosphere so they would know if they could even survive our atmosphere.

why do i run seti? well mostly because i'm curious to know for sure like so many others. to be part of the exploration to find other life forms. i might not get my name in the news but at least i've been a part of the exploration.
