Profile: The Chancer

Personal background
I am a 25 year old bloke, originally from Manchester, England, and now living with my partner in Australia. I trained in Hotel Management and worked in them for 7 years before meeting my partner online. Needless to say people were sceptical at first, but we have recently had a baby girl which is fabulous news to both of us. My hobbies include PC's (no suprise there) and basically everything to do with them, as well as playing the piano (some people would say I can quite good) and most raquet sports, although time now seems to be a little short for sport - but no doubt that will change.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
This is the area in which I am supposed to talk about ET's and UFO's I believe... Well, I must say that in such a universe as ours, which at the moment is so huge (is it still expanding ??) that we cannot even comprehend it really in physical terms, the mere possibility that we are alone is ludicrous. I have no doubt in my mind that with 3213295 users (as of 18/8/01) all trying their best to find something, then it will be found. That is not to say that the countless other ways and means that are being used won't find it first.
I found out about Seti from a friend of mine who was running it on his Mac.. and at first I thought it looked like a nifty screen saver.. (which it is..) But I then got into thinking all about the actual project, and what it stood for, which made me all the more interested in doing it. So every PC I touch now runs it.. and I actively encourage others to do it too.
As to whether we as the human race should send a beacon to others, I think it is only fair, we are looking for "them", and want to find "them", so why not make it easy for ourselves and give "them" something to follow. As to what it should say... there is a myriad of things that could be sent. Although a continuous data packet of binary and digital data, with a welcome message in every language, and to show that we can converse on a basic binary level, as well as through speach.
