Personal background
I received my physics BS from the University of Washington in 1996. I have been working in Astronomy for the last 4 years. I currently operate a 3.5m telescope at Apache Point Observatory, but will be quitting in about 4 weeks. You see, I became a volunteer EMT (www.sunspotfireems.org) and have found my TRUE calling, which is medicine. So, I am quitting this job, returning to Seattle and going to try my best to take the classes necessary to get into medical school. I guess physics and astronomy were just a little too far removed for me.

I love the science, the analytical pursuit of problems and the unravelling of our universe, but I prefer to focus on things that have direct and immediate impact. I am not saying that phys/astr do not have impact, just a much longer time constant. Saving someone in anaphylactic shock just really seems to bring more satisfaction to me than writing another paper on an obscure binary star system....
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Although I am dedicating all of MY resources to my medical pursuits, I figure what the heck. I am not using this darn P-III processor most the time, so why not let you guys see if you can make Win2000 contribute something useful to the human race while I am sleeping.... We will never know if we go spinning through our galaxy with our eyes and ears closed.

Oh yeah, what a genius idea to get major computer processing time for free. Mind if I borrow some to figure a pattern in the stock market? :)
