Personal background
I am a 20 year old from Northern California. I'm planning to be a Music Management major with a double major in Physics at UOP in Stockton, California. Maybe a double-major, but we'll see how much hair I lose with this plan for now. In any case, I hope to one day understand theoretical physics and the universe better and perhaps contribute to the field.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think it's idiocy to lay out a claim that life doesn't exist beyond Earth. If the universe has ben expanding for 15 billion years (with it's beginnings expanding at an ever-increasing rate) that would be too much space just being there without making complex beings like ourselves.

The benefits of a discovery of extraterrestrial life, in my opinion, would be much like it is portrayed in Star Trek. The human race would be faced with a new look one life, the universe, religious convictions, etc. There will be some fanatics out there trying to undermine the advancement of human civilization, but that will all settle down and the human race will enter a new chapter, realizing that our place in the universe is not even a grain of sand in the universe; and that we have bigge fish o fry than ourselves.

Yes we should transmit a beacon. Being a guy who only knows one language, I'm not sure how to convey messages cross=culturally, so I don't know what should be sent.

I run SETI@Home to help out. It's the least I can do. My view about the project is that it's sad that only a liberal organization (Cal Berkley) will give it a home. I hate liberals. :-P
