Personal background
I'm currently 26 and living in Corvallis Oregon. I'm going to School at Oregon state University. My major is health care administration. I first got interested about life outside our planet when i was very young, when i first saw star wars at the movie theater. I was in awe, and from then on i have been an avid about the space program. When i was in the Navy for six years, i was lucky enough to be stationed in Puerto Rico for 2 years as an air traffic controller. I began dating a local girl, she knew how much of a space geek i was and she told me about the Aricebo Observatory. That was my first encounter with the S.E.T.I. program. It was almost a religious moment for me, when i stood near the immense radio telescope. I then began to read everything i could about the s.e.t.i. program. and when i bought my first computer in '99 and connected to the internet. the first thing i did was download the seti@home program. i check on it several times a day. Is that too wierd? lol I hope not. lol
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do i think extraterrestrial life exists? i do, because it is so difficult to imagine an entire universe above and all around us and to be totally alone. i would love to believe that the entire universe is abundant of intelligent life, but i doubt that, i do belive that life is out there. but only a few intelligent lifeforms. when i say a few, i mean in comparrison to how many stars there are. i would approximate (hope for) 2 million different intelligent liforms in our galaxy. but that is only wishful dreaming from a star trek fan. lol I think man will one day come in to contact with other lifeforms or at least coem into the knowledge of other beings out there, but communication between each of us would be only sci-fi for now. if man did come into contact with another life form, i believe it would be at risk just because of mans stupid impulsive actions. i believe mankind as a species is stupid. Religious nut cases like Rev. Fallwell (something like that) would demand them to be killed, just becuase it would contradict thier beliefs as man being the only intelligent species created by thier god. I don't believe man will come into contact with another life in my life time or even my childrens life time, unless technology changes enough to allow us to to better track and observe the night sky and our universe.
I believe humanity as a whole should transmit a beacon, what should we transmit? "hello.. is anyone out there..please respond"
