Personal background
Well, I was born in 1974 in Okinawa, Japan and have spent about 23 years of my life outside of the U.S. About 16 years in Japan, 6 in Germany, and about a year between Canada and Kuwait. It's been a heck of a ride and if things go as planned it should only be the beginning. I seperated from the military just before 9/11 and have returned to college full time. Despite having an insane amount of credits - somewhere in the 140 s.h. range - the school I am currently attending only accepted about 45 of them. So, for anyone that's adding things up, that makes me about a sophmore. Hopefully with a degree in International Relations I will be able to continue my globe hopping and get a chance to experience more cultures.
Some people like to point out one event, person, or place that help shape their lives. Mine has to be Okinawa, Japan in the late 80's early 90's. Also the people whom I knew there and the experiences they helped form. Kubasaki was a microcosm of diversity and acceptance. Thank you for being a part of that. And to Jenn Carlile, God Speed and God Bless. You were taken to soon and we all loved you.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does ET exist? They have to. It is impossible for me to conceive that they don't. With the various life forms that we are only know beginning to find on earth. How can anybody rule out what may exist out there. We have life that lives on right here on earth, what we would call, toxic chemicals. Creatures that live in the boiling vents of Yellowstone and the crushing depths of the Marianas Trench where their only substance comes from hot sulfur vents. Only a couple of years ago nobody thought these life forms could even exist. Now we are finding them more and more often.
Are they intelligent? I have no idea. Once again though, I can't accept that we are the only intelligent beings in the universe. I'd be very disappointed if we were the best and brightest in the universe. I'm happy with baby steps, though. Prove life has existed on Mars and does live on Europa. It's not that big an expectation is it?
