Personal background
I'm a self-professed science fiction and technology geek. My original degree is in electronics, but have been in the computer and IT field my entire professional career.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Considering how large the universe is and the estimated number of planets that could sustain life, it seems very unlikely that we would be the only form of intelligent life. (Well I'm assuming that we are intelligent.)

With that assumption a given, it seems only logical that other species would try to communicate and search out other life, just as we are doing. It would be a shame if we would miss their call simply because we are too shortsighted to even attempt to listen.

Failing that, I think this entire distributed computing system is an absolutely brilliant concept, and is well worthy of my spare cycles. At the very least it proves the concept, allowing others to apply it to other worthy tasks.
