Personal background
First, a bit about me - I'm thirty-something and work for a large company in Hampshire as an IT Consultant. I'm not married, except perhaps to my job. I run SETI@Home on two machines at home, an Athlon 64 X2 and a Celeron. Although I'm unlikely to really hit the big time when comparing my meagre total to some of the major number crunchers, I like to think that I'm doing my bit for science.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Is there life out there? Sure, when you've stood in the middle of a desert landscape at night and looked at the thousands and thousands of twinkling lights overhead, its almost infeasible that we're on our own. Every time I've thought about whether they'd be more advanced than us or not, to be honest, I just couldn't decide. They may be way more advanced than us and visiting nightly without us even knowing, sniggering at our "primitive" efforts to find them - I don't know, but I'd like to find out, I think!
