Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe that there is life out there, somewhere.
I don't know if or when we will discover it, one big question is whether we use the right instrumentarium to find other civilizations out there.
I think, when we discover life out there a lot of people will be shocked about this. The great religions (Christs, Moslems, Jhews, etc.) will have a lot to explain. The biggest benefit would be to get us curious about our "neighbours" and that could trigger a new age of exploring.

Just send a signal that can be recognized as not beeing send by some stupid galactic backyarders.

I'm fascinated about the search for intelligent life. I hope that one day there will be the the words "We have a contact!".
