Personal background
Hi,
My name is Dave Parker, I am an Engineer by trade and I live in the UK. I have a wife and three beautiful children, 1 boy and 2 girls.

My hobbies are Computers, Computers and Computers.
I play online games, mainly the Quake series, and I do some web design, although I have not long started and am still learning.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. A person would have to be very naive to think that in the whole of the Cosmos, ours was the only planet that could sustain life. So it is my belief, that out there, there are more forms of life. At what stage of evolution, these life forms are, we have no idea, but certainly, there will be life out there of some sort.
I think humans will discover other forms of life, at sometime in the future, but I certainly believe that it won't be in my lifetime, or even my childrens for that matter. This, I think, is down to the technology available to us at the moment. I do not believe that the Human Race has advanced far enough in the technological revolution that continues as I write.
Until we are able to send craft into outer space in weeks, rather than years, and for them to be able to send signals/pictures back clearly, then we will be no nearer to finding other forms of life, especially intelligent life.

2. I do believe we should be transmitting beacons into outer Space, purely for the fact that we are able to. If there is Intelligent life out there, then they will probably contact us.The information sent, should be concise and clear. It should also be in pictorial form.

3. I run SETI@home because I believe it is a start, and also, as pointed out, where else would the university get this kind of computing power to read, and analyse the radio signals.
As your own figures suggest, it is a vast amount of resource, at very little cost to the university.
Also, I have spare "Processor Time", which can be used effectively, to help someone else's cause.
