| Personal background |
I'm a 50 year old male with a love of pursuing something that IS possible. I think the day you stop believing in what CAN be is the day they close the lid. I'm from Vancouver Canada and have lived more or less in the area all my life. I work as a Controller/Network Administrator for a manufacturing company in British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and several locations in the US. It seems I am always the one that family comes to when there is any computer problem :) My father actually steered me to your site and project and I heartily welcomed the opportunity to participate. I have been a fan of all things in this regard since the time I can remember. I'm running Seti on a FEW ( wink wink nudge nudge ) computers which DOES help push the units a tad ;)
I think the BEST thing SETI has done to date is to eliminate nationalities and borders. Look at us. People from every place on earth....... all working together. Unheard of..... and yet...... its working (well...... other than the new version hehehe;)If you ever read the profiles, you find that people are just people, no matter WHERE they are. It's really amazing...... AND enjoyable to see. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I'm one of those persons that deals with values, formulae, and statistics on an hourly basis in everything I do. The magnitude of the KNOWN universe is stunningly incredible ( let alone what we DON'T know ........yet). I guess I'm one of those persons that can't accept that with THOSE odds........... WE are it ? I think WE will be detected before we detect. I dont readily accept that in all the universe.. ..we are the pinnacle. I believe that a beacon is a GOOD step in this direction. I also think that the "beacon" should be a constitute ( in some form) of math in that this SHOULD be something most universal in establishing a base of communication. (1+1=2). we see that even here on Earth in OUR myriad of languages, concepts, and beliefs. I run seti@home to assist in ANY way I can with this project.
