Personal background
As a child I was always intrigued by the possibility there could be life elsewhere in the universe. As I grew older and learned the numbers involved, I became convinced that it's very probable. What sealed the deal was the first time that I peered through a 10" reflector telescope on top of a mountain, in the dead winter cold of January at Haleys Comet. After we lost the view, we started looking at other things in the sky. Of we course we looked at all of the usual suspects, but then started looking at other galaxies and it struck me how arrogant we really are if we think we are the only intellegent life in the universe.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm currently running Seti@home on two computers @home a pentium 4 1.5 GHz and a Pentium III 650. I think we should transmit a beacon. Some where out there there maybe other life doing the same thing we are doing, looking for proof that we are not alone in the universe.
