Personal background
I just moved to Ajax (close to Toronto, Ontario, Canada). I'm a computer programer by trade and a big sci-fi fan...which I guess makes me an official member of the international nerd society.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I definitely believe life exists elsewhere in the universe, but I don't think it exists in the "Star Trek" way (littered with huminoid bipeds with only superficial differences). I think the other forms of life will be so "alien" to us that it will be centuries before we have the technology to recognise and communicate with them. For example, what if a form of plant on another planet is sentient, evolving some sort of biological/chemical method of communication? There would be no transmission of radio waves from them out into the universe. However, I also think the universe is a place of limitless possibilities, in which case the Seti@home project may actually make an earth-shattering discovery.
